FIRST HIT ACADEMY
$100
If you want your child to get into riding mountain bikes then this is the place to send them. Little Rippers is all about having heaps of fun and good times riding bikes, whilst learning the skills required to tackle blue (and eventually red) trails safely and confidently with their peers.
Takes place over three consecutive mornings and covers body position, safe braking, trail etiquette, drops, corners and pumping. It’s a great way of setting your kid up for success through giving them control on their bikes, and will put your mind at ease that they have all the tools to ride safely in the future.
This is the course to choose if you have a young rider who is already riding bikes and knows how to stand up and use their brakes as a minimum, but equally caters for kids who’re already keen young riders - we often split the groups in First Hit to keep it at the right level for all.
What They'll Learn
How to properly stand on their bike and find a good neutral body position letting them stay balanced over uneven terrain
How to use range of motion to deal with undulating terrain and remaining in control
Proper line choice and body position for flat and supported corners
How to deal with drop offs safely and in control
A bike safety check
Trail etiquette
What to take with them on a bike ride

For Around the Horn young riders who already regularly ride challenging enduro / downhill style trails.

Running at the same time as our Double Play Academy, here we start to dive further into our lineup as we work towards taking our riding to the next level. During the three consecutive afternoons, we’ll cover pumping, hops, manuals and how to apply these skills to increasingly technical trails and discover how to find grip and control when there doesn’t appear to be any - and lots more.

What’s On Deck?
RIDER CHECK-INS
Riders will be frequently engaged in a number of check-in meetings to discuss upcoming events/clinics, preparing for the first race, discuss rider goals, etc. These will be held with an in-person and virtual option and this determination will be made based on rider availability. These check ins will serve as a chance to mentor the team with any rider needs
TEAM SKILLS CLINICS
Skills clinics will be offered throughout the season to ensure riders are able to apply the leveled skills necessary to be both safe and successful in their riding pursuits. There will be an opportunity to engage in these clinics and then apply these skills to the trail. Additionally, there will be on-site skills instruction during race weekends as the riders will be taught how to dissect and evaluate the trail/race run.
RACE WEEKENDS
Race weekend will be an exciting time for all riders and our schedules will be packed full of riding, coaching, and comradery. We aim to take as much pressure off families and riders as possible so riders/families can enjoy their time at the races. A preliminary race schedule will be shared and a specific race schedule will be shared ahead of each race.
